AccountKit is practice management software for accounting firms that use Xero. It brings your workflow, document management and compliance, administration and advisory tools together around your client list. It connects to Xero Practice Manager, Xero and the email, document and e-signing tools your firm already pays for. Paul and Paula Murray built it inside their own accounting firm, Murray Business Solutions.
Who AccountKit is for
AccountKit is made for accountants and bookkeepers whose practice runs on Xero. Every plan includes five users, and you can add more as the firm grows. You can compare the plans on the pricing page.
What AccountKit does
Workflow. You can see every AccountKit job, task and deadline across the firm in one view, linked to the client list you keep in Xero Practice Manager. Each person gets My Daily Plan and a My Projects dashboard, and higher plans add templates and repeating templates. Read more on the workflow page.
Document management. Mail, emails and signed documents are filed against the right client group, in the document system you already use, such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, SuiteFiles or FYI. AccountKit doesn't keep its own copy of your documents. Read more on the document management page.
Compliance tools. The amortisation scheduler, equipment finance tool, inter-entity loan tool, account reconciler (beta), Division 7A tool, franking account register and fuel tax credit calculator take repeated schedules out of Excel. Supported journals post straight to Xero. The Division 7A tool, the franking account register and the fuel tax credit calculator are for Australian practices only.
Practice registers. The correspondence register, important items register, professional development register and Knowledge Centre keep the firm's own records next to the client work.
Advisory tools. The client mapping tool draws business structure diagrams, and the simple loan, flexible loan, extra loan repayments, compounding super and retirement calculators help you start a conversation with a client.
You can see every tool on the tools page.
What AccountKit connects to
Xero Practice Manager and Xero are two separate connections, and most firms use both.
Xero Practice Manager is where your client list lives. AccountKit connects to XPM for your client and contact details, and time recorded in AccountKit syncs to XPM. AccountKit's own workflow jobs stay in AccountKit and don't sync to XPM. See the XPM integration page.
Xero connects the accounting ledger. Tools such as the inter-entity loan tool and the Division 7A tool post their journals into the client's Xero file. Connecting Xero doesn't mean every record in both products is kept in sync: what moves depends on the tool you're using. See the Xero integration page.
Email and messages: Outlook, Gmail (beta), Microsoft Teams, Slack and SMS through your own Twilio account.
Documents and e-signing: SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, SuiteFiles, FYI, Annature and FuseSign.
Compliance data: CAS 360, SimpleFund 360 and NowInfinity.
The full list is on the integrations page.
What AccountKit doesn't do
AccountKit sits between the software you already use. It doesn't take the place of any of it.
It doesn't replace Xero. Your clients' books stay in Xero, and AccountKit posts supported journals into them.
It doesn't replace Xero Practice Manager. You keep using XPM alongside AccountKit. If you're weighing up the two, read how AccountKit compares with Xero Practice Manager.
It doesn't prepare or lodge returns. AccountKit doesn't lodge anything. Xero Tax, Xero Workpapers and your other tax software stay where returns are prepared and lodged.
It doesn't replace your corporate compliance or SMSF software. CAS 360 and NowInfinity stay the platforms for corporate compliance work, and SimpleFund 360 stays the place you prepare the fund's accounts. AccountKit shows their information next to the client and links back to them.
It doesn't replace your document system. Your documents stay in your DMS, and the permissions you set there still apply inside AccountKit.
It doesn't make tax decisions for you. For example, the Division 7A tool calculates interest and minimum repayments, but it doesn't decide whether a loan is caught by Division 7A.
It isn't financial planning software. The super and retirement calculators give a client a starting picture, not personal advice or a statement of advice.
It works with Xero today, not QuickBooks. QuickBooks support is coming soon, but it isn't available yet. You can read QuickBooks: current status in this collection.
